Sunday classes at the farm

Laughing Frog Farm will be offering classes this spring. Subjects include Qi Gong, aquaponics and fruit tree care. We have scheduled through March and will add more later. Currently all classes are on Sunday due to the Saturday farmers market.

•January 30 –TOFGA conference–half day fruit tree class at the farm.

•Feb 1–A one hour class at the TOFGA conference entitled “An introduction to small scale fruit production in Texas”. Must be registered for the conference http://www.tofga.com

NOTE: All classes are held outdoors and can be canceled due to severe weather. Classes will be from 2:00pm until 4:30pm. To register for any class simply contact me by email. You can pay at the event with cash, check or credit card. Enrollment is limited. All classes below are small. Classes will be added if the demand is there. Dress appropriately for the weather–hats, sunscreen, mosquito spray are considerations. Bring gloves for the gardening classes. Wear sturdy shoes. Open toed shoes are not appropriate on the farm. No pets.

•Feb. 9–An introduction to backyard aquaponics–understanding the biological system and construction of a small IBC backyard aquaponics system. We will completely build one simple system for fish and a small growing bed. All parts, supplies and measurements will be on the handout. $45

•Feb. 16–Grafting and other propagation methods–each participant will take home a grafted tree and a few stem cuttings and root cuttings planted for rooting(fig, grape, pomegranate and berries).
Limit 10 participants $45.

•Feb 23– Fruit tree care. We will discuss chill hours, root stock, grafting, planting, variety selection, soil reports, soil amendments, fertilization, pest control, compost tea, beneficial insects, pruning, and a lot more.
We will plant fruit trees, berries, and muscadines. We will prune bunch grapes, pears, apples, peaches, muscadines, and probably more. There will be time for Q & A. $ 45

•March 2–Earth Qi Gong for women taught by Kenan Rote, certified instructor More information $45

•March 9–Grafting and other propagation methods–each participant will take home a grafted tree, a few cuttings planted for rooting and a root cutting.

•March 23–Aquaponics–An introduction to the biological system and building of a raft and media system $45

•May–On May 4 we will celebrate our first year as shepherds with an open house discussing sheep, lambing, rotational grazing, and all the mistakes and problems we have encountered. This is an open house for people interested in visiting even if you have no interest in small ruminantes.
